How to Install NVIDIA 555 Series Driver in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS via PPA
Let’s go through the following steps to install NVIDIA graphics driver in Ubuntu.
At first, launch “Software & Updates” utility and check the tick box for the “Proprietary drivers for devices (restricted)”. After doing this, run the following command to update your Ubuntu.
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
Add NVIDIA Graphics Driver PPA In Ubuntu
It’s unofficial and the PPA is NOT officially supported by Ubuntu. So You need to use it wisely and with caution.
Run the following command to add the PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
Now again run the following command to update your Ubuntu after adding PPA.
sudo apt update
Now, it’s time to install NVIDIA driver in Ubuntu. So, you need to execute following command in your Ubuntu terminal and restart computer after installing the package.
sudo apt install nvidia-driver-555
Just in case if you want to remove NVIDIA driver from your Ubuntu then run the following commands:
sudo apt remove --autoremove nvidia-driver-555
Then, restart your computer. Run the following command to remove the PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
