In this tutorial, We will show you the method  to hide  the top bar in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. This tutorial to hide GNOME top bar in Ubuntu is also applicable to Ubuntu 22.04, and  Ubuntu 20.04 with default GNOME Desktop.

How to Hide GNOME Top Bar in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

There are multiple ways to hide GNOME top bar in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

1. Use “Hide Top-bar” Extension to Auto-Hide top panel

You can easily install “Extension Manager” from Ubuntu Software or App Center.After installing, Go to the “Installed” tab in Extension Manager, and click setting icon for the extension. In the dialog box, go through the following configuration.

  • Disable intelli-hide, If disabled top bar is always hidden, except in overview.
  • Set keyboard shortcut to view the top-bar.
  • Show top bar when mouse approaches screen top edge.
  • Change animation speed, timeout and pressure threshold  etc.

2. Lightweight Extension to Hide Top Bar

This is another useful extensions to hide Top bar on Ubuntu. You can find following extensions:

  • Hide Panel Lite for GNOME 3.36 ~ 42 (Ubuntu 20.04 ~ Ubuntu 22.04).
  • Dock Unroll for GNOME 45 & 46 (Ubuntu 23.10 and Ubuntu 24.04).

You can easily install it from the Ubuntu software center  & launch it and configure accordingly.
